My name is Niamh McGarry. I am a qualified psychotherapist with clinical training and experience in integrative and pluralistic psychotherapy. I hold an MSc in Pluralistic Counselling and Psychotherapy and have worked with adults in both in-person psychotherapy in Dublin and online therapy settings.

As an integrative psychotherapist, I do not use a one-size-fits-all model. I work from a pluralistic counselling approach, meaning therapy is shaped around your goals, preferences, and what you find most helpful. I offer a supportive space to explore difficulties, build understanding and work towards meaningful change at a pace that feels right for you.

Qualifications & Experience

Qualification I hold an MSc in Pluralistic Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Institute of Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (IICP) in Dublin where my training emphasised collaborative, client‑centred work and integration of approaches to meet each individual’s needs.
Experience
3+ years in Psychotherapy
I am an integrative psychotherapist with an MSc in Pluralistic Counselling and Psychotherapy. I believe in a collaborative, client-led approach to therapy, moving away from "one-size-fits-all" models to focus on what specifically works for the individual.

My practice is grounded in Person-Centred Therapy, but I integrate tools from various evidence-based modalities to address your specific needs:

- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): To address patterns of thinking and behaviour.
- Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT): For emotional regulation and distress tolerance.
- Solution-Focused Therapy: To build on your strengths and achieve personal goals.

Areas of focus include:

- Anxiety & Stress: Managing burnout and life pressures.
- Relationship Difficulties: Navigating interpersonal challenges as an individual.
- Grief & Trauma Recovery: Moving through difficult life events.
- Neuro-Affirmative Therapy: Providing a validating, supportive space for Autistic and ADHD adults.

By tailoring each session to your personal preferences, I ensure that therapy feels effective, inclusive and aligned with your unique individual goals.
Approach Therapy with me is a collaborative one-to-one journey where we move at your pace to address the challenges you're facing, be they depression, anxiety, or individual relationship issues. Sessions blend practical skill-building to manage immediate symptoms with deeper exploration of your values and choices, ensuring you leave each session with both a greater understanding of yourself and the agency to navigate your life as an individual.

FAQs

What is a "pluralistic" or "integrative" approach, and how does it benefit me?

It means I reject the "one-size-fits-all" model of therapy. Every person is completely unique, so your therapy should be too. I hold an MSc in Pluralistic Counselling and Psychotherapy, which allows me to blend different evidence-based tools depending on what you need. We might use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to tackle looping thoughts, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) to help manage intense emotions, or Person-Centred therapy when you simply need a safe, confidential space to process a difficult life event. We work as a team, and you always set the pace.

Do you offer online therapy, and is it as effective as in-person?

Yes, I offer secure online therapy nationwide across Ireland via a private video platform, alongside my in-person practice in Walkinstown (Dublin 12) and Clondalkin (Dublin 22). Research shows that online therapy is just as clinically effective as face-to-face sessions. Many clients actually prefer it because it removes the stress of commuting, fits easily into a busy schedule, and allows you to participate from the comfort and safety of your own home. (Please note: Online sessions are offered at a lower rate of €50, while in-person sessions are €70).

I’m nervous about starting therapy. What happens in the first session?

It is completely normal to feel nervous or uncertain, especially if it’s your first time. Our initial session is simply an open, pressure-free conversation. We will look at what is currently feeling overwhelming or stuck in your life, and discuss what you hope to get out of therapy. You never have to share anything you aren't ready to talk about.
