Experience1+ years in Emotional Freedom Technique
I became accredited 9 months ago and prior to that was qualified for approximately one year.
Approach I provide a safe, welcoming space for people to share what is bothering them. We begin by running through how to tap - this will usually help you to feel more relaxed and at ease, get familiar with the tapping procedure, and allows the issue or key elements to surface gently. You are in control of the pace.
When you are ready, we can focus on the underlying cause(s) of the issue - usually something that happened in the past - which is where EFT tapping usually brings big positive change. Do not worry if you are not sure what caused an issue - the root cause memories tend to surface quite easily. (Your brain will know the relevant memories.)
There is usually a logic behind things. For example, a person might have a fear of public speaking - they were not born with that fear, but at some point in the past they learned it was not safe to speak in front of a group. The memories that surface might include things like:
- being asked to recite a poem at school in front of the class, forgetting the words and being laughed at.
- being mocked by a family member or told to shut up at the dinner table as a child whenever you shared your opinion.
- being harshly criticised by a former boss in front of colleagues.
The person may know that logically those things happened in the past and that now is different. But if those root cause memories still carry emotional charge, they are likely to still experience stress (sweaty palm, heartrate, panic, other) when asked to speak in a group/in a situation that feels similar.
Using EFT Tapping on those memories carefully and thoroughly allows the brain to rewire those memories, effectively neutralising them, and removing their power over you in the present. This usually also results in people being able to see what happened in the past more clearly.
Please also know too that, if an unexpected memory surfaces which you would prefer not to focus on then, you do not have to do so - memories can be packed up and safely put away as needed. (In itself a wonderful skill and one that can be done with EFT tapping.)
Many of my clients so far have been neurodivergent - autistic, Audhd or ADHD - and I am happy to say that I can provide a safe space for people to unmask and be themselves. I know how helpful EFT Tapping can be from personal experience - it has helped me hugely with anxiety, past stressful (& traumatic) events, grief, self-confidence, and more.
Questions are always welcome.
