About Me

I am a psychotherapist and counsellor based in Cork City. I have experience both as a working therapist and as a client and I understand that it can be challenging to make the first step to start your personal journey in psychotherapy. In my psychotherapy sessions I create an open and safe space where clients can navigate their personal struggles, their motivations, emotions and behaviours. Each session will explore topics that the client brings and we will discuss these issues blending elements of psychotherapy and counselling theory and interventions such as CBT, psychodynamic and existential therapy. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. As we build a therapeutic relationship together the client will inform the approach and technique that works best for them when working through their own personal challenges.

Experience

Psychotherapy for 3 years

I have worked with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship issues, low self-esteem, sexuality issues, addiction among other concerns impacting their mental health and well being. In truth, we all experience challenging emotions, behaviours and events throughout the course of our lives. Psychotherapy is an effective way to explore, process and make peace with the complexities of the lived experience. In my personal view, allowing yourself a space dedicated to self-exploration and understanding is a true act of resilience and courage. I understand that those coming to psychotherapy may find the notion daunting, I aim to ensure you are listened to in a non-judgemental and supportive manner in every session.

Approach

The most important thing about psychotherapy is the client-therapist relationship. Our early sessions will be about building truest and understanding to allow you, the client, to feel comfortable to look inward and express yourself and share your thoughts, anxieties and feelings. I work from a person-centred basis, which means that the client is the expert of themselves and the therapist is there to create a safe, non-judgemental and open space for the client to explore their emotions, motivations and their own lived experience. I will listen to you and together we can explore your goals for therapy and find the best approach to help you uncover, understand and cope with the challenging issues you wish you to discuss. I am an integrative psychotherapist which means I work with a variety of psychotherapy approaches, from CBT to psychodynamic theories and interventions. I will work with you to find an approach that will meet your needs in therapy.
