Qualification I completed a BSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy with PCI College. This course gave me a foundation in this work and introduced me to the various theories that are involved in counselling. While the theories are a large part of this work, working with clients provided the biggest learning opportunity as it allowed me to see how different people are and where certain things help some people, it doesn't necessarily work for everyone.
I continue to learn from different continuing professional development courses that provide an introduction to different theories.
Experience4+ years in Counselling
I have been working as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist for just over 4 years, including vast experience in online work. I work with adults experiencing challenges such as Depression, Anxiety, Loneliness, Stress, Anger, Loss, Bereavement, Abuse, Relationship problems, Self-Esteem, effects of COVID, and other issues. My aim is to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where you can safely explore the challenges you are facing.
We live in a world that has grown exponentially over the last 50 years or so and sometimes it advances so fast that we struggle to keep up with the demands of it all. Often, there is so much happening that it feels like there is no other option but to keep going. I like to offer a space to slow down and reflect on what you really need in a world that keeps moving.
Resources should be readily available to anyone or everyone who needs them and my aim is to work with you to help navigate your feelings, thoughts, or struggles that you may be experiencing. This can lead to a deeper understanding about any patterns of behaviour that might be causing problems in your life. Also, counselling is not a one-size-fits-all, I believe it requires flexibility and using an integrated approach, to suit the space to each individual that sits with me.
Approach Since completing my training, I have used a predominantly person-centred approach to build a therapeutic relationship with each person. This relationship then enables me to work with and facilitate a space tailored to you, bringing in elements of different approaches such as CBT, and IFS to name a few; depending on what each person is looking for but also what they are able for. Throughout my years of experience, I was introduced to the concept of compassion and that is now a crucial piece of my practice.
Counselling is not a one-size-fits-all, I believe it requires flexibility and using an integrated approach.
There is often changes to my schedule, if you don't see an hour that suits, please reach out and let me know.
