About

My name is Barbara Fiori; I am a pre-accredited counsellor and psychotherapist working in Cork and Online. I am a native Spanish speaker, and I offer therapy both in English and Spanish.

I consider therapy to be an invaluable place for any of us to address concerns around our mental health, relationships, crossroads in life and any issue which might benefit from a consistent, safe and non-judgemental space. It might be difficult to find these environments in our busy lives, and many a time, we don’t want to impose on our loved ones, friends or colleagues. This is where a professional space could help.

As an integrative psychotherapist, I draw from different theories that I believe can provide options for people to try and explore, to sustain themselves in difficult circumstances, and to allow growth and development. All while being supported in an understanding relationship. I love learning and researching for specific client’s concerns, and I am committed to continuous professional development.

Experience
3+ years in Psychotherapy
Through my clinical placement and current private practice, I have completed over 150 hours supporting clients. I have worked with a variety of client’s concerns, including anxiety, depression and low mood, relationship and family issues, difficulties in parenting, traumatic and life-changing experiences, co-dependency, grief and others.

I also have 12-years’ previous experience teaching English as a second language to young children, and I currently volunteer teaching Spanish to teenagers looking to complete their Leaving Cert.
Approach As an integrative therapist, I draw on a range of therapeutic theories, recognising that these approaches are suited to different issues, symptoms or client’s needs or styles.

The theories I mostly work with and have a huge interest in are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Humanistic (Person centred and Existential), Psychodynamic (Psychoanalysis and Attachment theory) and Polyvagal theory. I also use techniques and teach skills from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. I regularly attend Continuous Professional Development courses, that add to my training.

How we could work: For the first two to four sessions, in average, we would explore what brought you to therapy and define goals, priorities and any ‘burning’ issue. From then on, we would ‘get to work’, in a dialogue between your concerns and the therapeutic concepts and techniques I would introduce, held within a supportive, non‑judgemental relationship.
